Take care of our mother earth. Instead of going off to some dead red planet,to terraform it. This is blue and alive, spend those funds cleaning up our air and water.

After watch this, there are a lot of questions: Moon is near, some planet engineering experiments can be done on Moon(i.e, make fuel)-big less fuel rocket with more equipment from earth~refill to Mars as rescuse or transport or relays communication and (faster track amongst Mars and Moon with less fuel and earth)~save time and fuel and more trips enabled. Colonization need a lot of trips.

I really hope I live long enough to see the first man or woman set foot on Mars. That would really be a fitting way to leave this life. I saw mankind reach the moon I will never get there now but just to know the young people still dream of going to the stars like we did really makes up for it.

Having a rover get bogged in sand can be a disaster however perhaps it can be overcome by writing a program that enables the rover to lift two wheels on the right side and one wheel on the left side at the same time , then move them forward and set them down on the soil. The same process can be repeated to the other three wheels enabling the rover to walk out of the bog Spider Fashion. Once the rover is clear of the bog the software can be returned to normal. This software can be tried out on perseverance's twin here on Earth. Once it is perfected it can be uploaded to Mars.

It would make better sense to take a atomic reactor to Mars that can be fueled with thorium. Thorium is found in clay, it is dirt cheap, requires no processing and there is plenty of it on Mars. The beauty of a thorium fueled atomic reactor is, it creates no radioactive atomic waste. This is a win win situation.

The equation for wind power(P) is given by P= 0.5 x ρ x A x Cp x V^3 x Ng x Nb where, ρ = Air density in kg/m3, A = Rotor swept area (m2). Cp = Coefficient of performance V = wind velocity (m/s) Ng = generator efficiency Nb = gear box bearing efficiency. The velocity is there, but air density is very low. Even if there are winds over the entire planet, only the wind on the wind turbine blade counts. To get more power, you’d need more turbines and batteries to charge.

While there are winds on Mars, the atmosphere is only 1% of the denisty of Earth's atmosphere and thus you would need very high winds to create what would feel like only a gentle breeze.

The atmosphere of Mars masses at about 2.5 x 10^16 kg. 95% of that is CO2. It can afford a few 1 x 10^3 kg converted to O2. That does not include the O2 sealed away in minerals and water. If we do warm it up over the long run, that’s a good thing possibly.

There is a technological principle at work with human science and engineering. It`s called "Just Good Enough" in order to accomplish the astounding feats we have seen throughout human historical endeavor, from the Pyramids to Taj Mahal to Notre Dame Cathedral to the atomic bomb to the Apollo landings on the Moon to Stonehenge. Perseverance drives our "Just Good Enough" and "Just Good Enough" drives our Perseverance.

The endless hope and positivity in this entire design is inspiring. It's like being a child all over again. Let me explain - as a software developer, if I wrote software counting on so many different and complex things (each) to work on the first day of deployment, I would be called an idiot and lose my job. Yet, NASA does it remotely a million miles away. Amazing. Politicians are to be blamed for the restrictions and thanked for such ingenuity to overcome restrictions forced upon NASA engineers. A more scientifically minded race would have, decades ago, approved multiple space stations, lunar bases and other space infrastructure so that if you lost one probe, you could quickly manufacture another and send it on its way. Now, every basic thing is an andrenaline rush inducing long shot.

A drone propelled by upward-facing blades is a helicopter. The most common design is called a quadcopter. "Drone" is a term only recently graduated from slang status, for what formerly would have been called a remote control vehicle. Remote control helicopters were simply called remote control helicopters. "Drone" doesn't indicate the form at all, either. Most military drones are airplanes, not helicopters.

Please don’t take my comment as confrontational, but there are many countries involved in the development of Perseverance. If it wasn’t for our international partners, much of this work wouldn’t be possible. Russia supported the International Space Station for 10 years while we had no shuttle fleet. And China has taken major steps in their plans to put science modules on the moon with multiple missions. It’s an exciting time for humanity to see so much interest in space.

What would be really cool is seeing camera footage of the earth gradually getting smaller as the spacecraft heads towards Mars.

Earth would look nothing more than a star by the time the spacecraft is even a fourth of the way there.
