Honeslty this movie just screams “I’m artistic, and if you don’t like it you’re just too dense to understand.” It’s so annoying, I’m sick of pretentious “artistic” films. I think the only time I’ve seen a film successfully tackle weirder topics is Swiss Army Man, it’s incredibly out there but not in a pretentious way. You can tell they had fun making it and weren’t just trying to shove a “deep” message down your throat.

Hello! I'm from Spain lol so I wanted to contribute to the comments. I've never seen this movie but I know the director because he used to be one of the actors of a show called Aida that was very popular in Spain. He was kind of a secondary character but the series was so big and had so many seasons that he most likely developed a sense of grandeur. Most of the other actors that are in this movie were also in that show. This movie was made after the show ended and I assume he had money and nothing to do lol. He has made statements many times about how "culture" is not appreciated in his country, that have sparked many controversies as his movies are what he considers culture and, as you may imagine, not everyone sees it that way. It really upsets me that this movies get so much attention, because spanish cinema has had such an stigma on it for so many years, that actual good spanish movies just fly under the radar. I have even seen a comment here saying: "t's a spanish movie, it has been a staple of their culture for almost 10 years". And I don't judge them for it, because unfortunately they are right to some extent. These are the movies we are known around the world for: movies with tits and boners and sex. That's it. And it really annoys me because in the last few years a lot of very interesting movies have been coming out in Spain, but that ones really don't get out there, movies like Pieles do instead, further proving the point that our cinema is bad. For anyone interested I recommend you Tesis, Hogar, El Autor, Rec, El Orfanato and Los Ojos de Julia. There's probable more and most likely they will be different from what you're accostumed, but let's be real, Hollywood isn't everything. Thanks for reading :)

i'm a fan of weird movies but funny enough i kind of like movies that have serious themes but don't show anything overly "serious". not sure that makes sense but something like Eraserhead is strange as hell but it avoids things like rape/pedophilia ect. not that those things shouldn't be talked about in movies, it just makes them a lot harder for me to watch "personally". I like being able to take in very strange things without having to think too hard, or being able to take in the lore the strange world has in it if there is any. so yeah, i don't hate the "idea" of this movie but i'll probably just never watch it. i do have problems with the movie itself but i like that it tried some weird stuff.
