HOSHI, member of the self-producing idol group, SEVENTEEN, reveals his first solo mixtape. In “Spider,” HOSHI likens the feelings of falling for the deadly and inescapable charms of an individual to the desperate movements of a prey caught in a spider’s web. The accompanying music video and choreography visualize the state of being “trapped” and unable to escape from this maze-like dynamic. HOSHI’s sentimental vocals are backed by dreamlike pluck sounds and a restrained bassline, further heightening the tension in this thrilling game of spider and prey.

The choreography is just so unique that at each new move I've never seen before, I think "okay, the rest of the choreography is gonna be like others I've seen", but they kept doing one new original move, after new original move, that I just sat there staring at the video with my eyes transfixed on the screen like...wow. The level of artistry in this MV just leaves me in awe. From the very first notes that made me want to keep listening because they sound like an xylophone, to the catchy beat two seconds later, then the interestingly creepy spiderlike movements, and the music transitioning into a r&b jazz with deep bass kinda feel to it. And then that dramatic dropping of the crossed hands move that landed directly on the beat at 0:48 was just so satisfying and caused a pause that then pulled the song forward to make me want to listen to more. Then the next movements directly on the beat were great. And then he hit us out of nowhere with that body roll at 0:57. And then the interesting choreography where he walked with a slight resistence through a sea of people dressed in white. And then when he was dragged through the paint it seemed to perfectly express how pleasurable it is to feel seduce by someone you love, some emotion of longing and was really satisfying to watch. I like the movement of his fingers at 1:52 . How he steps backwards at 2:16. The footwork and choreography at 2:26. It seemed like he was a human work of art magically come to life dancing in it's picture frame in an art museum at night after everyone's gone home at 2:44. The glow-in-the-dark paint on his face under the black lights was really cool. The deep breathing sounds at 3:06 added something great to the song. I liked how each person danced in their own section at 3:08. And how the lights sparkled on them randomly at 3:20 . This whole music video is a masterpiece. And everything about this song is just so lovely.

If you didn't know Hoshi until now is your problem. He is the Performance Unit's Leader of SEVENTEEN. One of the biggest boygroups right now... And he composed and choreograph the song plus he co-directed the music video performance. If you didn't like it, it's okay, but what is the point of making this type of comments...

The fact that you didn't know who Hoshi was is not really relevant I think? Seventeen is one of the most famous boys groups in Korea with BTS and EXO so it makes sense an official release by one of the Leaders of the group would get some hype. It's also a mixtape so not an official release, just some sort of present for Seventeen's fans. The song itself is a question of taste, it's not the most out there crazy in terms of innovation but it's chill and a lot of people like that (reminds me of Change Up in a way). Visually Seventeen don't release a lot of title tracks with dark concepts + Hoshi is a very cheerful and funny person so a lot of fans were not expecting that kind of concept.
